Udine is a city in northeastern Italy, in the middle of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, between the Adriatic Sea and the Alps (Alpi Carniche), 40 km from the Slovenian border. Its population was ~100,000 in 2012. Udine was first attested in medieval Latin records in 983. As of 2006, 91% of the population was of Italian descent. The largest immigrant groups came from other European nations (particularly Austria and Croatia) with 5%, followed by sub-Saharan Africa (mostly Ghana) with 2%, and North Africa with 1%.
